Taipei: It has been two years since World No. 1 women’s singles player – Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan last won her All England in 2020, defeating Chen Yufei of China 21-19, 21-15.
Entering the 2022 All England as three-time champion (2017, 2018, 2020) of the prestigious tournament, her chances certainly look good.
She was drawn into the top half, where her real test would come in the quarter-finals facing World No. 5 Nozomi Okuhara of Japan. If she could get past Okuhara, she would most likely meet World No. 4 An Seyoung of Korea or World No. 8 Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand.
Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympics gold medalist and World No. 3 Chen Yufei, World No. 2 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, and World No. 7 PV Sindhu were granted tough paths at the bottom half. Yamaguchi could face Sindhu in the semi-finals, while Chen might have to overcome compatriot He Bingjiao in the last four.
