Kuala Lumpur: The doubles coaching director of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) – Rexy Mainaky liked to see World No. 45 men’s pair – Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun to give a strong challenge to the reigning World Champions – Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi of Japan in the first round of 2022 All England which will be held in Birmingham, England, from March 16 to March 20, 2022.
“This would be a good chance for Wei Chong and Kai Wun to play against top men’s doubles pair in the world, they should be brave and compete with the underdog mindset,” said Mainaky.
The 2022 edition would also be Man/Tee’s debut at the oldest badminton tournament of the world which offered total prize money of USD $1,000,000.
“This is our first All England, I am really excited about it. It’s our first time to participate in such a big tournament,” said Man.
Although they are going to battle the World Champions and No. 3 seeds from Japan in the first round, they are determined to give their best performance.
“We know the Japanese world champs are very strong, we will work hard to give everything we have. Of course, I’m sure we can learn a lot from playing against Hoki/Kobayashi,” added Man.
In order to get ready for the German Open, and the All England, Man/Tee are currently working on strengthening their mental and physical toughness before leaving for Europe.
Meanwhile, Mainaky also commented about Malaysia’s World No. 7 men’s pair – Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik’s chances at the All England.
“Aaron and Wooi Yik will face 2016 All England champions – Vladimir Ivanov/Ivan Sozonov of Russia in the first round. Aaron and Wooi Yik must learn from last week’s Badminton Asia Team Championships, and they should overcome the slow start problem,” added Mainaky.
“When playing the Russians, they must be pro-active from the beginning until the end of the match,” explained Mainaky.
