Shah Alam: The Indonesian women’s team made history by winning the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) for the first time on Sunday. They defeated Korea 3-1 in the final of the 2022 edition.
Gregoria Mariska Tunjung scored the first point for Indonesia when she defeated Sim Yujin 21-9, 21-10 in the first women’s singles match.
After the tie, Tunjung was quick to express her joy, because she was the team captain, and this was the first time the Indonesian women’s team has both qualified for the BATC final and also emerged as the Asian women’s team champions.
“I am proud and grateful. Praise God for being able to bring the Indonesian women’s team to victory. Thanks to the togetherness and cohesiveness of the team. All the players performed great with full of enthusiasm,” said Tunjung.
After the women’s singles match, Korea quickly leveled the overall score to 1-1 when Baek Ha Na/Seong Seung Yeon beat Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi in the first women’s doubles match 21-15, 14-21, 21-14.
Indonesia retook the lead in the second women’s singles as Putri Kusuma Wardani outlasted Lee Se Yeon 21-10, 21-18.
Nita Violina Marwah/Lanny Tria Mayasari then scored the decisive third point for Indonesia when they beat Kim Min Ji/Park Min Jeong 23-21, 21-11 in the second women’s doubles match.
“I am proud and very relieved to be able to perform well with Lanny and lead Indonesia to victory,” said Marwah.
