Shah Alam: Even though the Malaysian women’s team didn’t make the 2022 Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) final by losing to Korea 0-3 on Saturday, some players have shown great potential at the tournament.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) singles coaching director, Wong Choong Hann was happy to see the World No. 311 women’s singles player Siti Nurshuhaini stepping up to show a strong fighting spirit against stronger opponents.

Wong said Nurshuhaini played good attacking and defense during the 2022 BATC, and the 17-year-old could achieve better if she continued to work hard and to improve her game.

“We have to admit we lost to a stronger team in the semi-finals. Overall, we still have a lot of work to be done in both singles and doubles,” said Wong.

“I see Siti showcasing strong courage and desire to win a point for Malaysia. She has a huge potential, but needs to keep working hard to improve her performance,” added Wong.

“If she can get better in her attack, I can see her in the World’s top 40,” explained Wong.

Despite failing in the semi-finals, that achievement was good enough to enable Malaysia to qualify on merit for the 2022 Uber Cup Finals that wil be held in Bangkok, Thailand, in May.

In the women’s 2022 BATC final, Korea will meet Indonesia who earned a free victory in the semi-finals after Japan withdrew due to several of its players being considered close contact of a player who was tested positive for COVID-19.
