Kuala Lumpur: In preparation for next week’s 2022 Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) that will take place in Shah Alam, Malaysia, Lee Zii Jia has returned to Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Friday to train with the Malaysian national team.

The World No. 7 player who quit the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and turned professional last month, was optimistic that Malaysia could reach the final of the 2022 BATC.

“Everyone knows most of the countries only sending their second-tier players to the tournament,” said Lee.

“We are probably the strongest team based on the rankings. Hong Kong is pretty strong as well because they have two or three key players. So, we will see,” added Lee.

Lee also said that there was a total of four companies which would like to sponsor him after he left BAM.

“After I left BAM, I got offers from Victor, Li Ning, Yonex, and Felet,” continued Lee.

“Things are still in progress. I am also looking for a coach. I will make the announcement when everything is finalized,” said the 2021 All England champion.

Lee also revealed that he is building his own team. He and his team will follow the footstep of the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist – Viktor Axelsen to set up a training center in Dubai.

Currently, Daren Liew and Soong Joo Ven are serving as sparring partners for Lee Zii Jia.
