Lucknow: Malaysia’s World No. 72 Cheam June Wei soared past India’s Kaushal Dharmamer in the 2022 Syed Modi India International second round, recording a 21-16, 21-13 victory over the Indian to reach the quarter-finals.

Cheam will face Lucas Claerbout of France for the first time on Friday for a spot in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, last week’s India Open mixed doubles runners-up, Chen Tang Jie/Peck Yen Wei extended their dominance at Syed Modi, defeated Dhruv Rawat/Shikha Gautam of India in straight sets 21-14, 21-11 to advance to the last eight.

The No. 2 seeds Chen/Peck will meet unseeded Indian pair – T. Hema Nagendra Babu/Srivedya Gurazada in the quarter-finals on Friday.

In men’s doubles, Malaysia’s No. 8 seeds Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun Tee have a tough task ahead of them as they will need to battle the 2016 All England champions – Vladimir Ivanov/Ivan Sozonov of Russia in the quarter-finals.

Three Malaysian women’s doubles pairs have successfully made the quarter-finals. The No. 5 seeds Vivian Hoo/Lim Chiew Sien will take on compatriots Low Yeen Yuan/Valeree Siow while No. 8 seeds Anna Ching Yik Cheong/Teoh Mei Xing are set to play unseeded Indian pair – Ramya Venkatesh Chickmenhalli/Apeksha Nayak on Friday.
