New Delhi: Malaysia’s new mixed doubles pair – Chan Peng Soon/Valeree Siow got off to a strong start at the 2022 India Open on Wednesday.
The fifth-seeded Chan/Siow needed only 20 minutes to see off India’s World No. 174 Raju Mohamed Rehan/Jamaludeen Anees Kowsar 21-4, 21-9.
“I would consider the first round as our warm-up match before facing more difficult opponents,” said Chan after their first-round victory.
“My partnership with Valeree today was good but we haven’t met a more difficult pair yet. So, we’ll see how it goes in the next match,” added Chan.
“Valeree is a player with great potential and she shows a good attitude on the court. This makes me happy to play with her,” continued Chan.
Chan/Siow will play another Indian pair, Kashish Sharma/Saruni Sharma on Thursday.
In men’s singles, Malaysia’s World No. 60 men’s singles player – Ng Tze Yong was made to fight uncomfortably hard to survive his opening round match. The unseeded Ng ultimately overcame No. 7 seed Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia 21-16, 14-21, 21-5 in 61 minutes to advance to the second round.
Ng will next face Lucas Claerbout of France.
