Huelva: Taiwan’s World No. 1 women’s singles player – Tai Tzu Ying managed to exact revenge for her loss to defending champion – PV Sindhu of India in the quarter-final of the 2019 World Championships by beating the World No. 7 player from India 21-17, 21-13 in the 2021 BWF World Championships quarter-finals.
Tai’s best record in the World Championships was entering the quarter-finals of the 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2019 editions. She has successfully broken the quarter-final jinx in World Championships after Friday’s victory.
“I’m satisfied with the way I played today as I didn’t make many easy mistakes,” said Tai after the match.
She will play He Bingjiao of China on Saturday.
In another women’s singles quarter-final match, China’s World No. 46 Zhang Yi Man gave Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon a spirited challenge, beating the 2013 World Champion from Thailand 13-21, 21-13, 21-15, and will face World No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi in the last four.
Meanwhile, Korea’s women’s doubles World No. 2 Kim Soyeong/Kong Heeyong have set up a semi-final battle against compatriots – the World No. 4 Lee Sohee/Shin Seungchan on Saturday, while Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan of China will play Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara of Japan for a spot in the final.
The Japanese team will be guaranteed a silver medal in the mixed doubles category after Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino are set to play teammates Kyohei Yamashita/Naru Shinoya in the semi-final.
Thailand’s World No. 1 Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai will take on World No. 7 Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong in another mixed doubles semi-final.
