Aarhus: The Uber Cup reigning champions – Japan recovered from being one match down to beat Korea 3-1 in the Uber Cup semi-finals on Friday.
Japan trailed 0-1 at the start of the Uber Cup semi-final in Aarhus, Denmark, after World No. 5 Akane Yamaguchi lost her opening women’s singles match to Korea’s An Seyoung 14-21, 7-21.
The Japanese women’s doubles players were just too strong as they could set up any type of women’s doubles combinations and still managed to deliver the wins.
In the first women’s doubles match, scratch pair Yuki Fukushima/Mayu Matsumoto showed no fear against World No. 4 Lee Sohee/Shin Seungchan, leveling the overall score to 1-1 by beating the Korean pair 19-21, 21-16, 21-14 in 78 minutes.
Japan’s World No. 15 women’s singles Sayaka Takahashi was made to work in the second women’s singles match before edging past World No. 17 Kim Gaeun 18-21, 21-18, 21-14 to put Japan ahead with 2-1.
Another Japanese women’s doubles scratch pair – Misaki Matsutomo/Nami Matsuyama then eliminated World No. 5 Kim Soyeong/Kong Heeyong 21-17, 21-18 to move Japan past Korea and into the Uber Cup final.
Japan will play 14-time winners, China on Saturday.
Meanwhile, China defeated Thailand 3-0 to cruise into the 2020 Uber Cup final.
