Taipei: The president of Taiwan – Tsai Ing-wen met with the 146 members of the Taiwanese Olympic team which consists of athletes, coaches, supporting staff at the Presidential Office on Wednesday to congratulate them for achieving the best Olympic performance ever in the history of Taiwan.

Taiwanese athletes successfully brought back two golds, four silvers, and six bronzes from the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Before meeting with the president, Lee Yang/Wang Chi-lin who won gold in the badminton men’s doubles category became the first athlete to step on the red carpet in front of the Presidential office.

The pair was asked how did they feel after losing their first Group A match to India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty.

“I cried after losing the first match,” said Wang.

“I was really sad at the time. After all, it was our first time playing in the Olympics. We felt like our efforts have gone into the drain. But we regrouped quickly and got ready for the upcoming matches,” said Lee Yang.

The Olympic women’s singles silver medalist Tai Tzu Ying was happily waving to the crowd while walking on the red carpet.

Both top Taiwanese men’s singles players, Chou Tien Chen and Wang Tzu Wei were in good mood and pretending to play a badminton match on the red carpet. They said they are currently preparing for upcoming tournaments that will be held in the last three months of the year.
