Los Angeles: World No. 14 women’s singles player, Zhang Beiwen of the USA has shared an update on her injury after she ruptured her Achilles tendon in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics round of 16 clash against China’s World No. 9 He Bing Jiao.
Zhang won the first game 21-14 and was trailing 7-9 in the second before she injured her left Achilles tendon and was forced to retire from the match with tears.
Her voice trembled and was heard saying “broken, broken, broken” when she was down on the court at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza. She was then wheelchaired off the court.
On August 9, she posted a video on Facebook showing a nurse took off the cast on her left foot with a small electrical saw.
Although Zhang’s injury looked awful, she seemed to be progressing well after the surgery. Wish her a speedy recovery.
