Huelva: The Indonesian team became the biggest winner at the 2021 Spain Masters by winning four titles at the BWF World Tour Super 300 event on Sunday which was held in Huelva, Spain.

Indonesia won the first title through women’s doubles pair – Yulfira Barkah/Febby Valencia Dwijayanti Gani, when the unseeded pair pulled off a huge upset to defeat No. 1 seeds Amalie Magelund/Freja Ravn of Denmark 21-16, 21-14 in 46 minutes.

In the men’s final, the No. 2 seed Toma Junior Popov of France who was also the 2021 Orleans Masters champion was determined to not allow Indonesia to sweep all five categories by attacking the backhand side of Wardoyo while playing tight defense to pressure unseeded Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo of Indonesia to commit errors. At 20-17 of the second game, Wardoyo returned the serve from Popov but it was called out-of-bounds and Wardoyo decided to challenge the call.

When the hawkeye confirmed the shot from Wardoyo was in fact out of bound, Popov dropped to his knees to celebrate the victory as he won the final with 21-15, 21-17.

The unseeded Putri Kusuma Wardani didn’t wait too long to pick up the women’s singles trophy for Indonesia as she outlasted No. 3 seed Line Christophersen 21-15, 21-10 in 35 minutes.

In an all-Indonesian men’s doubles final, No. 5 seeds Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan staged a comeback after dropping the second game to beat compatriots Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 21-15, 18-21, 21-14.

Indonesia bagged its last title through the mixed doubles No. 1 seeds Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari when they overcame No. 2 seeds Niclas Nohr/Amalie Magelund 21-18, 21-15 in 39 minutes.
