Huelva: Cheam June Wei regained control after a slow start against No. 8 seed Swedish Felix Burestedt to march into the quarter-finals of the Spain Masters with a 14-21, 21-15, 21-16 win in 66 minutes on Thursday.

The World No. 75 Malaysian will take on the World No. 19 and No. 1 seed Shesar Hiren Rhustavito of Indonesia on Friday.

Another Malaysian men’s singles player, Ng Tze Yong was no match for No. 2 seed Toma Junior Popov of France, losing to the 2021 Orleans Masters champion 10-21, 12-21. Popov will play Mads Christophersen of Denmark next.

In men’s doubles, No. 1 seeds Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen secured a spot in the quarter-finals after beating unseeded Samy Corvee/Kenji Lovang of France 21-10, 21-10. Astrup/Rasmussen will meet No. 5 seeds Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan of Indonesia in the quarter-finals.

After losing the first set against Annabella Jaeger/Stine Kuspert of Germany, the No. 5 seeds women’s doubles pair – Anna Cheong Ching Yik/Yap Cheng Wen found their touches to overcome the Germans 19-21, 21-6, 21-17 to set up a final 8 meeting with No. 1 seeds Amalie Magelund/Freja Ravn.

The 2021 Spain Masters is a BWF World Tour Super 300 event, it offered total prize money of USD $140,000.
