Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s King – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was proud of the successes of Malaysian shuttlers in the recent European leg tournaments, where Lee Zii Jia ended Malaysia’s four-year drought to win the All England men’s singles title, while Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan created a Cinderella run which saw them emerged as the Swiss Open women’s doubles champions.

In addition, Ng Tze Yong, Choong Hon Jian/Toh Ee Wei, and Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun also claimed the men’s singles, mixed doubles, and men’s doubles titles respectively at the Polish Open.
After meeting the King, Lee said Sultan Abdullah gave him some words of encouragement and advised him to continue achieving more success in the future.
“The King told me he watched the All England final as well. He also asked me to keep my fighting spirit and to continue to improve,” said Lee.
Meanwhile, Lee gave the King the racquet he was using in the All England final against Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.
On Tuesday, the King set up a tea party to welcome the shuttlers from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). Besides Lee Zii Jia, Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan, Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, the president of Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, BAM’s National Junior development Director Misbun Sidek, World No. 9 men’s pair – Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, World N0. 27 men’s pair – Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin, World No. 10 women’s doubles pair – Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean were also there to meet the King.
