Basel: Carolina Marin of Spain and PV Sindhu of India will be fighting for the Swiss Open title when the all-star pair clash in Sunday’s final.

The No. 1 seed Marin claimed a battle of nerves against No. 3 seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in the semi-final with 21-15, 20-22, 21-19 win in 76 minutes while Sindhu overcame No. 4 seed Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark 22-20, 21-10 on Saturday.

“She was a bit lucky in the second set, as some of her net shots touched the net and came over to my side, but this is part of the game,” said Marin.

“I am not really happy with how I played because I made a lot of mistakes. But, I was able to motivate myself and told myself to forget about the mistakes and keep going,” added Marin.

In an all-Malaysian women’s doubles semi-final, the unseeded Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan pulled off a major upset to down No. 2 seeds Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean, winning 10-21, 21-14, 21-16 in 66 minutes.

Tan/Muralitharan will take on No. 3 seeds Gabriela Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria on Sunday.

Malaysia’s mixed doubles No. 5 seeds Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing , however, suffered a semi-final loss to No. 6 seeds Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue of France, losing 19-21, 10-21. The French pair will play unseeded Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Bøje of Denmark for the Swiss Open title.
