Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s World No. 17 women’s doubles player, Vivian Hoo was not included in Malaysia’s Swiss Open squad that will participate in the Super 300 event to be held in Basel, Switzerland, from March 2, 2021, to March 7, 2021.
When speaking to Malaysian media, the 30-year-old admitted that the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) had removed her name from the tournament after being dropped from the national squad in early February.
She said she accepted the decision with an open heart despite admitting that she was a little disappointed with not able to compete at the Swiss Open.
“Actually, I will not go to Switzerland because BAM has already removed my name from the tournament. It is because Yap (Cheng Wen) is still in BAM,” said Hoo.
“Of course I was a little disappointed with this decision, but I accepted it with an open heart. Even if I am able to find a sponsor, I still couldn’t go because Yap is still with BAM,” added Hoo.
The Swiss Open is an Olympic qualifier and it offers a perfect chance for players to gain valuable Olympics ranking points.
Meanwhile, Hoo said that she is actively looking for sponsors and revealed that she may be playing in a mixed doubles event with Tan Wee Kiong.
“Now I am still looking for sponsors to finance the cost of my training and participating in tournaments. I will also probably join Wee Kiong for mixed doubles as well as finding a new partner for the women’s doubles event,” continued Hoo.
