Bangkok: Denmark’s World No. 4 Viktor Axelsen bagged his second consecutive BWF World Tour Super 1000 title after he defeated compatriot Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus 21-11, 21-7 in the Toyota Thailand Open men’s singles final on Sunday.
Axelsen managed to force Vittinghus diving left and right to save the shuttlecock and was in complete control throughout the 40-minute match.
“There’s no big celebration for me, I’ll stay in the hotel and talk to my family and baby girl at home,” said Axelsen.
He also posted message below on his Facebook after the sweet victory.
“Back to back titles here in Thailand. I wasn’t sure what to expect before leaving to these tournaments since I haven’t played for a long time, so I’m beyond happy to have performed like this so far. In a rematch of last week’s YONEX Thailand Open final, Carolina Marin of Spain made it two titles in two weeks by outlasting Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan 21-19, 21-17 in the women’s singles final.
“I am very happy. Two championships in two weeks, it is an amazing start of the year,” said Marin.
Tai, on the other hand, acknowledged she couldn’t match Marin’s pace.
“I couldn’t control myself from making unforced errors,” said Tai.
In the all-Korean women’s doubles final, fourth-seeded Kim So-yeong/Kong Hee-yong overpowered third-seeded Lee So-hee/Shin Seung-chan 21-18, 21-19 in 56 minutes.
In the men’s doubles, Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin of Taiwan also won back-to-back titles by overcoming Malaysia’s Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik 21-13, 21-18 in 36 minutes.
One week after claiming the YONEX Thailand Open mixed doubles title, Thailand’s mixed doubles top seeds Sapsiree Taerattanachai/Dechapol Puavaranukroh were red hot in the final on Sunday by seeing off fourth-seeds Koreans Seo Seung-Jae/Chae Yujung 21-16, 22-20 in 46 minutes.
