Jakarta: Indonesia’s World No. 2 men’s doubles pair – Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan were named the best athletes of 2020 (best of the best) in the 2020 Golden Award Night organized by the Sports Journalist division of the Indonesian Journalist Association.
In the event which took place in Jakarta on Wednesday night, it had implemented strict health protocols in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Setiawan and Ahsan could not attend in person but were represented by Indonesia’s men’s doubles coach, Herry Iman Pierngadi.
“Thank you for giving us the best of the best award. This motivates us to do even better in the upcoming tournaments especially at the Tokyo Olympics next year,” said Hendra Setiawan through a live-stream video.
Mohammed Setiawan and Hendra Ahsan, also known as “the Daddies”, achieved remarkable results in 2019 as they have won the 2019 World Championship, 2019 All England, and the 2019 BWF World Tour Finals.
In addition to Setiawan/Ahsan, World No. 1 men’s doubles pair Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon were also selected as the most popular male athletes of 2020.
