Kuala Lumpur: Secretary-general of Badminton World Federation (BWF), Thomas Lund, has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the three back-to-back Asia leg tournaments that will take place in Bangkok, from Jan 12 to Jan 31, 2021.
Lund has reassured badminton fans that although he is currently in self-quarantine, he could still fulfill his duties and responsibilities from home.
BWF has confirmed that Lund is COVID-19 positive, and has published the statement below on behalf of Lund on Sunday:
“Dear friends of the badminton community. I can confirm that on Thursday 10 December I tested positive for Covid-19.”
“I am now in isolation at my home in Denmark.”
“A thorough contact tracing procedure has taken place and those whom I have had close contact with have been informed and the necessary standard operating procedure has been activated.”
“Fortunately, I have been in contact with very few people and mostly interacted with people through virtual meetings.”
“While I do display mild symptoms of the coronavirus, I otherwise feel ok and will continue to fulfill my normal duties from my isolation.”
Meanwhile, the secretary-general of The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Kenny Goh also sent warm wishes for Lund’s swift recovery.
“It’s an unfortunate news, all of us here wish him a speedy recovery,” said Goh to Malaysian media.
