Korea: Korea’s 31-year-old Son Wan-ho and 28-year-old Sung Ji-hyun, have officially joined the illustrious list of badminton power couples as they were officially married in a fun and romantic wedding ceremony on Saturday.
The couple, who originally planned to hold their wedding ceremony right after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, had to postpone their wedding to Dec 12, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although South Korea reported a record 950 daily coronavirus cases on Saturday, exceeding the late February peak of 909, and with the Korean president calling the country’s third wave of COVID-19 an “emergency”, there were still about 49 relatives and friends attended the wedding ceremony.
Both Son and Sung played a critical role in helping Korea won the 2017 Gold Coast Sudirman Cup. That was also Korea’s first Sudirman Cup title after 14 years.
Son has been plagued with injuries since 2019, as he ruptured his left Achilles tendon while competing at the Korean National Championship in May 2019.
