New Delhi: Some of us might have watched the movie – “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, a 1994 British romantic comedy film that featured irresistibly breezy humor, and winsome performances from Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell. Believe it or not, right now, we could rephrase the movie title a little bit to “A Wedding and Four Covid-19 Positives”.
Indian media, PTI has reported that Parupalli Kashyap, HS Prannoy, Pranaav Jerry Chopra, and RMV Gurusai Dutt were the latest from India’s national badminton team to test positive for COVID-19 after contracted that virus at the wedding of RMV Gurusai Dutt on November 25.
Four of them were reported to be asymptomatic and are currently self-isolated.
Fortunately, India’s top women’s singles player, Saina Nehwal, who is married to Kashyap, together with RMV Gurusai Dutt’s wife were tested negative.
“The players took the RT-PCR test as a precautionary measure a few days back after one of them was showing very mild symptoms,” a member of the Gopichand Academy told the PTI.
“Kashyap, Guru, Prannoy, and Pranaav returned positive.”
“However Guru’s wife Amulya Gulapalli and Saina Nehwal have tested negative.”
“There have been cases when a lot of time the first test result comes false positive, so the players have been advised by the doctors to wait and monitor a few days and take a second test on Monday,” said the member of the Gopichand Academy.
Since Parupalli Kashyap, HS Prannoy, and Pranaav Jerry Chopra have been training at the Gopichand academy, as a precautionary measure, all trainees at the academy were also being tested for the virus.
India has been struggling to control the Covid-19 pandemic, as it now has the world’s second-highest number of Covid-19 cases after the USA.
