Seoul: Sung Ji-Hyun, the World No. 14 women’s singles player from Korea, who is all set to tie the knot with former Korean World No. 1 men’s singles player Son Wan-Ho in December, celebrated her bridal shower with friends recently.
Sung, 29, took to Instagram to post a series of pictures and videos from her bridal shower. She looked so happy and was having a gala time with her teammates from the Korean women’s badminton team.

The former World No. 2 came from a family of badminton. His father, Sung Han-Kook, won the 1986 U.S. Open title, men’s team gold at the 1986 Asian Games, and men’s singles bronze at the 1986 Asian Games. He later became Korea’s national team head coach.
Her mother Kim Yun-Ja was a two-time All England champion. She won the 1986 women’s singles champion by defeating Qian Ping of China 11-6, 12-11; Kim then partnered Chung So-Young to win the 1988 All England women’s doubles title.
Standing at 175cm, Sung and her husband-to-be, Son Wan-Ho were best known for leading South Korea to their first Sudirman Cup victory after 14 years in Gold Coast 2017.
After they get married, they will be joining the list of as one of the badminton power couples. Here are some of the well known and famous powerful couples in badminton: Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei and Wong Mew Choo; Indonesia’s 1992 Barcelona Olympics champions Alan Budi Kusuma and Susi Susanti; China’s World Champions Lin Dan and Xie Xingfang, Chen Long and Wang Shixian; and India’s P. Kashyap, and Saina Nehwal.
