Shaanxi: World No. 2 women’s singles player Chen Yufei, and World No. 1 mixed doubles pair, Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong completed the successful victory of their respective titles at the 2020 Chinese National Badminton Championships as action concluded Tuesday in Shaanxi.
Chen from the Zhejiang team was stretched to limit by Wang Zhiyi of Hubei, before winning the final 11-13, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-9 in 105 minutes. The tournament was using the 7×11 scoring format.
In the mixed doubles final, top-seeded Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong started the final strongly, steadily kept their lead to take the first game 11-6. However, Huang Dongping/Ou Xuanyi from the Fujian team put up a strong fight to take the second and third game 11-9, 11-8.
Zheng/Huang kept their cool and their nerves to eventually prevail as they won the last three games 11-5, 11-5, 11-7.
Tuesday also saw the men’s singles crown went to Weng Hongyang from the Fujian team, defeating Gu Junfeng of Liaoning 11-5, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6.
“This was my first time playing at the Chinese National Badminton Championships, and I was able to win the title. It really gave me a lot of confidence,” said Weng after the match.
Liu Yuchen/Feng Yanzhe gave the Beijing team the men’s doubles title as they beat Liu Cheng/Huang Kaixiang of Fujian 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 for the Chinese national title.
The Guangdong team tasted victory via Chen Xiaofei/Feng Xueying after the pair saw off An Yu/Liu Shengshu of Liaoning team 14-12, 15-14, 4-11, 11-4, 11-3 to win the women’s doubles title.
“The pace of the 11-point scoring format was very fast, and we need to stay very focused from the beginning until the end,” said Feng Xueying.
