Saarland: Carolina Marin of Spain was having an easy victory after battling 21-15, 21-9 win over Germany’s Fabienne Deprez to reach the last 8 of the BWF Tour Super 100 event in 25 minutes on Thursday.

The top-seeded Marin who was chasing her first title of 2020 at SaarLorLux Open, will take on No. 5 seed Qi Xuefei of France on Friday.

Scotland’s No. 3 seed Kirsty Gilmour showed little sign of weakness, brushing aside Linda Zetchiri of Bulgaria 21-10, 21-10 in 26 minutes to next meet No. 7 seed, Lianne Tan of Belgium.

Meanwhile, Thursday was an upset-filled day for the men’s singles category at SaarLorLux Open, as many seeded players were defeated by lower-ranked players.

The men’s singles No. 1 seed put up a strong fight but eventually lost to unseeded Max Weisskirchen of Germany 13-21, 25-23, 16-21 in 65 minutes.

Brice Leverdez, the men’s singles No. 4 seed from France also failed to prevail after unseeded Mads Christophersen of Denmark saved two match points in the decider, staging a strong comeback to overcome Leverdez 13-21, 21-19, 24-22 in 62 minutes.

England’s No. 8 seed Toby Penty also lost the third round challenge to Ivan Rusev of Bulgaria, going down 21-5, 14-21, 17-21.
