Odense: Chou Tien Chen, the second-seeded Taiwanese, advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2020 Denmark Open by easily beating Nhat Nguyen of Ireland 21-8, 21-16 in 42 minutes.

In the first set, Chou was in complete control to finish the game in just 17 minutes. Nguyen saved three match points when trailing at 13-20 in the second set by smashing at Chou’s left and right sides. Chou reasserted his dominance to wrap up the match through a quick net return that caught Nguyen off guard.

Chou will face Kidambi Srikanth of India in the final eight.

The men’s singles No. 5 seed Kidambi Srikanth raced out to a quick lead and eventually took the first set against Jason Anthony Ho-Shue of Canada with 21-15. Srikanth confidently came back from a 5-8 down to lead at 11-8, before Ho-Shue appeared to run out of answers when Srikanth clinched the second set 21-14.

Denmark’s men’s singles No. 3 seed Anders Antonsen played a powerful and fast pace game to beat Thomas Rouxel of France 21-9, 21-12, setting up a quarter-finals match against the former World No. 2, Jan Jorgensen on Friday.

The women’s singles saw Carolina Marin punched her ticket to the final eight. She needed only 31 minutes to outlast Line Christophersen of Denmark 21-14, 21-8 to play Zhang Beiwen of USA next.

Zhang, however, was made to work by Evgeniya Kosetskaya of Russia, as she lost the first set to the Russian 14-21, before staging a comeback to win the last two sets with 21-12, 21-18.

Women’s singles No. 2 seed Nozomi Okuhara was firing on all cylinders to tame Jordan Hart of Wales 21-6, 21-12. Okuhara will play Julie Dawall Jakobsen of Denmark in the final eight.
