Jakarta: Indonesia’s eight-time All England badminton champion Rudy Hartono was injured after falling off a bike Saturday morning and is now receiving treatment at the Siloam Hospital in Pondok Indah.
In another version of the story, Hartono was reportedly suffered a stroke and collapsed while taking a walk earlier Saturday.
Fortunately, according to his sister-in-law Imelda Wiguna, Rudy’s condition has improved.
“He likes to exercise, taking good care of his body, and eating carefully. Maybe that day he was on a diet and was tired. Nowadays, Rudy likes to cycle,” said Imelda Wiguna to detikSport.
“Thank god, when he fell down, someone stopped and took him to the hospital when,” added Wiguna.
Hartono won the first of his All-England championships title when he was 18-year-old defeating Tan Aik Huang of Malaysia in 1968.
The 71-year-old dominated the All England from 1968 to 1974 and winning his last All England in 1976. He was also part of the great Indonesian Thomas Cup dynasty where they won the prestigious team event in 1967, 1970, 1973, 1976, 1979, and 1982. Hartono also claimed the world champion title in 1980.
