Chengdu: Qingdao Renzhou won the 2020 China Badminton Super League (CBSL) title as they defeated the Ruichang Biyuan team 3-0 in the summit clash of the 2020 CBSL final in Chengdu on Monday.
The Qingdao Renzhou Club was the powerhouse in the 2020 CBSL as it featured 9 players from the China national badminton team while Ruichang also included some top-ranked players from the China national badminton team such as Huang Yaqiong, Chen Qingchen, Li Junhui, and He Bingjiao.
World No. 1 and No. 2 mixed doubles player Zheng Siwei and Wang Yi Lyu teamed up in the men’s doubles match as they led from the front to beat Li Junhui/Ren Xiang Yu 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 to give Qingdao an overall 1-0 lead.
Qingdao’s Lu Guangzu then showed his vast experience to pull off an 11-7, 11-8, 12-10 win over Ruchang’s 2018 Youth Olympic Games gold medalist Li Shifeng.
Zheng Siwei then took the court again, partnering Huang Dongping in the mixed doubles match. Zheng/Huang of the Qingdao team and Feng Yanzhe/Huang Yaqiong from the Ruchang team were involved in a highly competitive first set that tested the grit and resolve of both. Zheng/Huang lost the first game 12-14 but were able to stage a strong comeback to grab the next three sets with 15-14, 11-5, 11-8.
Meanwhile, Xiamen Tefang outlasted Hunan Hualai 3-1 in the battle of third and fourth.
After the finals, Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong were voted the Most Popular Male and the Most Popular Female Athletes awards in the 2020 China Badminton Super League.
