Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s World No. 134 Ng Tze Yong came prepared to play against World No. 157 Leong Jun Hao in the BAM Invitation Championships final on Sunday, and was able to draw an easy victory over the injury-plagued Leong 21-13, 21-8 for the gold medal.
Leong was seen to be having difficulty moving in the second set after feeling pain around his right hip area.
“I knew Jun Hao suffered an injury before the match but I still want to give my best. Trying to score as many points as possible,” said Ng.
“I do not want to take it for granted, because if I didn’t focus and Jun Hao started narrowing the gap, I’ll be feeling nervous,” added Ng.
The 21-year-old Leong picked up the injury on Saturday and has to overcome the pain from his right hip to beat Lim Chong King 21-13, 21-16 to advance to the final.
“I already felt the pain when I woke up Sunday morning, but I wanted to give my best when I am on the court,” said Leong.
“I can feel the pain a few times on the court, I’ll seek doctor’s advice after this,” added Leong.
Meanwhile, for the women’s singles competition, Soniia Cheah defeated Eoon Qi Xuan, 21-16, 25-23, and Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean easily defeated Pearly Tan/M Thinaah, 21-14, 21-17 in the women’s doubles final.
