Kuala Lumpur: Men’s doubles World No. 9 Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik exacted revenge on World No. 15 Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi with a straight-sets 21-15, 21-11 victory in the BAM Invitational Championships final.

Ong/Teo beat Chia/Soh in the men’s doubles Group A match 21-18, 21-13 on Friday.

“Ong/Teo were still using the same strategy as Friday. We learn from our mistakes and changed our game plan, and that worked out well for us,” said Chia.

“I felt like we slowly regained our rhythm,” explained Soh.

In the mixed doubles final, Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing who are currently ranked No. 11th in the world, claw back from 16-20 in the second set, outlasting the Rio Olympic silver medalists Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying 21-10, 22-22 in 36-minute.

According to Lai, even though it was only an internal competition among Malaysian players, winning the title was very meaningful after not participating in any tournaments for so long due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

“I asked Kian Meng to continue focusing on the game even though we were trailing in the second set,” said Lai.

The victory was Tan/Lai’s third successive win over Chan/Goh having defeated the World No. 7 pair in the 2019 French Open first round with 19-21, 21-16, 21-13, and during the BAM Invitational Championships group stage on Thursday.
