Kuala Lumpur: Even though they were no longer playing for the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), World No. 7 mixed doubles pair Goh Liu Ying/Chan Peng Soon were still able to compete successfully in the international arena by winning the Thailand Masters and New Zealand Open titles in January and May of 2019.

The World No. 7 mixed doubles pair was rewarded for their undying spirit last week, when the famous badminton equipment manufacturer brand, Li-Ning, extended their contracts for another year until the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The extension was due to Tokyo Olympics have been officially postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic and have been rescheduled to take place in Tokyo from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

Chan Peng Soon has expressed his gratitude to Li-Ning for the support and trust given to her and Goh Liu Ying.

“It is not easy to find support and sponsor in times of uncertainty,” said Chan.

“Thank you to Li-Ning for staying and sponsoring us, and we will continue to strive for success to repay the trust they have given us,” added Chan.

Chan/Goh resigned from BAM in December 2018 and continued their professional badminton career under the sponsorship of Li-Ning.

In addition to Chan/Goh, World No. 15 men’s doubles pair Teo Ee Yi/Ong Yew Sin also signed with Li-Ning in January, 2020.
