Barcelona: Malaysia’s World No. 8 men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik powered past Bjarne Geiss/Jan Colin Volker of Germany 21-15, 21-18 in 27 minutes in the Spain Masters second round on Thursday.

The No. 2 seeds from Malaysia will take on another German pair, No. 6 seeds Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel in the last eight.

In men’s singles, Daren Liew of Malaysia managed to reel off 7 straight points in the second set, coming from 15-20 down to overcome Lucas Corvee of France 21-16, 22-20. Liew will meet No. 5 seed Rasmus Gemke of Denmark on Friday.

Viktor Axelsen of Denmark also advanced to the final 8 when he beat Brice Leverdez of France 21-11, 21-15 to play teammate Jan O Jorgensen in the next round.

Meanwhile, mixed doubles No. 1 seeds Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie of Malaysia saw off Pranaav Jerry Chopra/Reddy N. Sikki of India 21-16, 17-21, 21-11 to meet Kim Sa Rang/Kim Ha Na in the quarter-finals.

Although Malaysia’s mixed doubles No. 2 seeds Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing were leading 14-8 in the first set, 17-14 in the second set, but couldn’t maintain their composure to lose to Lee Jhe-huei/Hsu Ya Chin of Taiwan 19-21, 18-21.
