Macau: Malaysia’s World No. 28 men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin continued their strong forms at the Macau Open when they beat No. 4 seeds Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han 21-12, 21-16 in the quarter-final.
The No. 6 seeds from Malaysia once touted as stars in the making for the Malaysia squad, will face a tough test in the semi-finals as they are set to meet No. 1 seeds Li Jun Hui/Liu Yu Chen of China on Saturday.
Li/Liu overcame No. 7 seeds Lee Jhe-Huei/Yang Po-Hsuan of Taiwan 21-15, 21-13 in the quarter-final.
In mixed doubles, Hoo Pang Ron/Cheah Yee See of Malaysia were pushed to the limit before seeing off Lin Yong Sheng/Lin Wan Ching of Taiwan 14-21, 21-18, 21-13 in 54 minutes. Hoo/Cheah will meet another Taiwanese pair, No. 6 seeds Wang Chi-Lin/Cheng Chi Ya in the last four.
Men’s singles No. 1 seed Shi Yuqi seemed to have regained his winning touch by beating teammate Zhao Jun Peng 21-16, 21-17 to set up semi-final clash with Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand. Sitthikom Thammasin of Thailand and Sun Fei Xiang of China will be facing each other in another men’s singles semi-final.
Meanwhile, Canada’s No. 1 seed Michelle Li will play No. 8 seed Kim Ga Eun of Korea on Saturday for a place in the women’s singles final.
