Malang: A strong display from World No. 56 Soong Joo Ven of Malaysia took him past Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo of Indonesia 21-14, 21-9 into the 2019 Indonesia Masters semi-final.
Soong became the sole Malaysian player left at the tournament and will next meet World No. 51 Sun Fei Xiang of China on Saturday. Sun defeated another Malaysian player Tan Jia Wei 21-11, 21-18 to enter the final four.
In men’s doubles, No. 4 seeds Mohamad Arif Ab Latif Arif/Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn was no match for the No. 7 seeds Ou Xuan Yi/Zhang Nan of China, losing 15-21, 14-21.
Even though Anna Ching Yik Cheong/Lim Chiew Sien put up strong challenges, but ultimately went down to No. 7 seeds Huang Jia/Zhang Shu Xian of China 18-21, 18-21.
Meanwhile, two other Malaysian mixed doubles pairs were sent packing in the quarter-finals. No. 4 seeds Hoo Pang Ron/Cheah Yee See were able to win the first set against No. 5 seeds Adnan Maulana/Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso of Indonesia but were not able to finish the job by going down 21-18, 14-21, 16-21. Another Malaysian mixed doubles pair No. 1 seeds Chen Tang Jie/Peck Yen Wei we shocked by No. 8 seeds Guo Xin Wa/Zhang Shu Xian of China, bowing out 17-21, 15-21 in just 28 minutes.
The 2019 Indonesia Masters was a BWF Tour Super 100 event that offered total prize money of US$75,000.
