Kuala Lumpur: Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei will be aiming to add men’s singles and women’s singles medals for Malaysia when they compete in the 2019 SEA Games in Philippines from November 30 to December 11, 2019.
Lee, who lost to Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia in the men’s team final in 2017, will be bidding for more success in the 2019 edition alongside Soong Joo Ven, Lim Chong King and Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin in the men’s singles event.
Meanwhile, the 2017 SEA Games gold medalist Goh Jin Wei will be joined by Soniia Cheah, Lee Ying Ying, and Selvaduray Kisona in women’s singles.
The Coaching Director of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Wong Choong Hann said that BAM was hoping that experienced players could lead and inspire younger players in Philippines.
“We want to give young players more exposure at the beginning of their career to prepare them for even bigger tournaments in the future,” said Wong.
“Chong King and Aidil have showed promising results in the last few tournaments. We would like them to participate at bigger stage such as SEA Games for them to gain more experience,” added Wong.
Meanwhile, BAM also set a target of winning two golds in the 2019 SEA Games.
“We have set a target of two gold medals. We know is not easy, but we would like the players and coaches to take up the challenge,” said Wong.
