New Delhi: World No. 4 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark has reached his third BWF World Tour final this year as he eased past World No. 55 Parupalli Kashyap of India 21-11, 21-17 in the India Open semi-final on Saturday.
Viktor Axelsen who won the 2017 edition will take on the 2015 India Open champion Kidambi Srikanth in the final.
In an intense men’s singles semi-final, the No. 3 seed Kidambi Srikanth was struggling to control the shuttlecock and ended up lifting a lot of mid court shots to the advantage of unseeded Huang Yuxiang of China. Huang was dominating the rallies with aggressive attacks to take the first game 21-16.
Srikanth was much more in control in the second set by racing to a quick 11-4 lead before taking the second set 21-14.
The 26-year-old Srikanth finally able to reached his first BWF World Tour final in 17-month as he wrapped up the decider 21-19.
“It’s been a while since I reached a final. I’m happy to be playing in the final again,” said Srikanth.
“Thanks to the support from the crowd, I am excited to come from behind and win the semi-final,” added Srikanth.
Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin of Chinese Taipei will face Indonesia’s Ricky Karandasuwardi/Angga Pratama in the men’s doubles final, while China’s Wang Yilyu/Huang Dongping will take on Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti of Indonesia in the mixed doubles final.
