Indonesia to face Japan in Asia Mixed Team Championships semis

Hong Kong: Indonesia dominated the men’s doubles, women’s singles and men’s singles events to beat Singapore 3-0 in the 2019 Asia Mixed Team Championships quarter-finals on Friday, setting up a mouth-watering semi-final clash against defending champions Japan on next.

Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto kicked off the tie by showing their heart and maturity to dig deep in overcoming Loh Kean Hean/Toh Han Zhuo 21-16, 19-21, 21-19 in the men’s doubles match.

Ruselli Hartawan lifted Indonesia to a commanding 2-0 lead after defeating Yeo Jia Min 21-14, 21-18 in the women’s singles match.

Indonesia’s men’s singles player, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito then put on a dominating performance at key points to seal the tie for Indonesia by outlasting Loh Kean Yew of Singapore 17-21, 21-14, 21-7.

In other quarter-final ties, the defending champions Japan picked up a 3-0 win over Malaysia.

Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi won the men’s doubles match 19-21, 21-16, 21-15 over Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin before Aya Ohori survived a big scare to power past Ho Yen Mei 21-9, 25-23 in women’s singles.

Kanta Tsuneyama then settled the best of five format by seeing off Malaysia’s men’s singles player Cheam June Wei 13-21, 23-21, 21-15.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong and China will take on each other in another Asia Mixed Team semi-finals on Saturday.
