Morten Frost to coach India’s junior players at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy

Bengaluru: Denmark’s four-time All England Champion, Morten Frost has been named a visiting consultant coach at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) in Bengaluru.

“I’m very excited to come to the PPBA, a very successful academy started by my friend Prakash (Padukone). India is doing so well in badminton in the last decade with players like Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth) excelling. I’m delighted to get an opportunity to contribute to the next generation of young badminton talent in India,” said Frost.

Morten Frost and Prakash Padukone along with Liem Swie King (Indonesia), Han Jian (China), Luan Jin (China), were the world’s top men’s singles player in early 80’s. Frost later joined Yang Yang (China), Zhao Jianhua (China), Icuk Sugiarto (Indonesia) to become the first generation of “Big Four” or “Four Heavenly Kings” in badminton during late 80’s and early 90’s.

Talking about his former rival, Padukone who founded PPBA 25 years ago said: “We have been looking at getting a top foreign coach to guide the young players at PPBA for a while. Morten’s presence will be a huge motivation to many young talents at the academy. In addition to coaching, Morten will also help implement a robust coaching development plan as he has extensive experience as a player, coach and technical director.”

Frost, has arrived in Guwahati to watch India’s 83rd Senior National Badminton Championships that featured India’s badminton stars such as Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu. He is scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru later this week and will coach junior players at PPBA over the period of one year.

According to Indian media, Frost’s appointment was a private arrangement between Olympic Gold Quest (a non-profit organization set up by Indian badminton legend Prakash Padukone and ace cueist Geet Sethi), PPBA and the former world No 1 Frost.
