Jakarta: World No. 1 men’s singles player Kento Momota of Japan has stormed into the 2019 Indonesia Masters final after breezing past No. 6 seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark 21-15, 21-4.

Momota will be facing another Denmark player – Anders Antonsen in the final. Antonsen defeated home favorite Jonatan Christie in another semifinal match with 21-18, 21-16.

Despite holding a 3-0 career meeting record against Antonsen, Momota had to work hard before beating Antonsen with three-sets in two of his victory.

“We played competitively in our previous meetings. Antonsen is now at his peak. I will try to be more proactive and will try to control the rhythm,” said Momota.

In men’s doubles, after stunning the 2018 world champions Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen of China in the quarter-finals on Friday with 21-13, 21-18, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia secured the final berth by overcoming another Chinese pair – Han Chengkai/Zhao Haodong with 21-11, 21-17 in the final four.

On Sunday, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan will battle compatriots and World No. 1 pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo who won the 2019 Malaysia Masters title last week.
