Bangkok: Men’s doubles No. 1 seeds Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong of Malaysia showed who’s the boss in win against their ex-teammates of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), beating Teo Ee Yi/Ong Yew Sin 21-12, 21-16 in the quarter-finals at Thailand Masters on Friday.

Goh/Tan who left BAM last week, will take on Japanese pair Akira Koga/Taichi Saito for a place in the final on Saturday.

In another all-Malaysian men’s doubles quarter-final match, Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin had to summon their best badminton to turn back a late, blistering challenge from Mohamad Arif Ab Latif Arif/Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn. Goh/Izzuddin won, 21-8, 21-14 in 33 minutes.

Goh/Izzuddin will battle No. 5 seeds Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han of Taiwan in the final four.

Meanwhile, the Rio Olympic mixed doubles silver medalists, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying who also left BAM earlier this month, has advanced to the semi-finals by beating Alfian Eko Prasetya/Marsheilla Gischa Islami of Indonesia 21-12, 22-20.

“Although we managed to enter the semi-finals, but we can’t just stop here as we still have a long way to go, especially we just turned professional,” said Chan.

The top mixed doubles pair will meet Tang Chun Man/Ng Tsz Yau of Hong Kong Saturday afternoon.
