Copenhagen: The Denmark’s Badminton Union (DBF) has announced that before the organization could reach any agreements with Denmark’s national badminton players including Viktor Axelsen, Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, Mathias Boe, Carsten Mogensen and others, these players were barred from using the Denmark national team’s facilities for their training.
Since the Denmark players refused to compromise with DBF due to the conflict of sponsorships, all current Danish national team players can no longer ask for helps from the coaches and medical staff.
These players would have to return to their respective clubs until a new agreement is reached between the Denmark Badminton Association and the players.
In 2013, DBF and players have reached an agreement over various issues including sponsorship and subsidies and that expired on November 30, 2018. Though the two sides have been negotiating on the terms of a new deal, they were unable to reach satisfying results.
Hans-Kristian Vittinghus who represented the players in the negotiation, said he was disappointed with the decision.
“At the beginning, I felt that the negotiations were going well, but they are now escalating the conflict into this level. We are disappointed.”
“This doesn’t surprise us. We’ve prepared for this situation and have arranged our own training.”
If this continues, it would be a lose lose situation for both parties, as it’s difficult to build up a good badminton team, and according to the rules of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), badminton associations of countries and regions have the final say on whether their player can attend events related to world rankings. No player is allowed to register for BWF events as individual unless the badminton association of their country or region grants permission.
