Lucknow: Malaysia’s World No. 19 women’s doubles pair Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean have made it to the semi-finals of the $150,000 2018 Syed Modi International Badminton Championships in Lucknow, India on Friday.
The Malaysian women’s doubles head coach Rosman Razak praised Chow/Lee for their brilliant performance and hoped they would maintain their consistency ahead of Saturday’s semi-finals.
“They played well today. They followed all the game plans and strategies by dominating the game, especially at the front court,” said Razak.
Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean, who were also runners-up for the 2018 Russia Open, will meet Indonesia’s second seeds Della Destiara Haris/Rizki Amelia Pradipta for a place in the finals.
In the women’s singles, China’s former Olympic Champion Li Xuerui came back from a set down to beat Sai Uttejitha Rao Chukka of India 21-9, 19-21, 21-12 as the seventh seed Li will face fourth seed Han Yue in the semi-finals.
China’s sixth seed Lu Guangzu also through to the men’s singles semi-finals after he stunned local favorite and fourth seed Sai Praneeth 21-10, 19-21, 21-14 at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow.
Lu will meet eighth seed Sitthikom Thammasin of Thailand in the last four. Thammasin defeated another home shuttler Parupalli Kashyap 21-16, 21-19 on Friday.
