Kuala Lumpur: There is still a chance for World No. 22 Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik to end the year on a high — and the Malaysian young pair will surely be looking at the upcoming Korea Masters as a last-chance saloon for success this year.
Since being paired in 2017, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik who are 21 and 20 years old have yet to win any title.
The pair’s best achievements were becoming runners-up four times with the latest at SaarLorLux Open in Germany, earlier this month.
Chia/Soh had good chance to end their title drought at SaarLorLux Open but they blew it by going down to Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge of England 23-21, 18-21, 19-21.
Aaron Chia acknowledged that their mental toughness was not strong enough to deal with high-pressure situation.
“We need to increase our emotional and mental control on the court. This is not an easy thing.”
“We need to keep learning and gain experience to ensure we are able to cope with all situation during the match.”
“Korea Masters will be our last tournament this year. We will try to do the best in this tournament.”
“We are not giving up in our quest to win the first title at the international stage,” said Chia.
Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, the sixth seed, will open the Korea Masters against home shuttlers Jung Jung Young/Kim Dae Eun in the first round.
