Almere: Soong Joo Ven and Cheam June Wei were both through to the Dutch Open third round as they capped off easy second round victories on Wednesday.
The World No. 84 Soong has been outstanding in the second round as he eased past Luka Wraber of Austria 21-14, 21-8 in 34 minutes.
Soong will set up a third round battle with No. 7 seed Pablo Abian of Spain on Thursday.
The 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics mixed doubles gold medalist Cheam June Wei faced tougher resistance Milan Dratva from Slovakia as he had to comeback from 12-15 down in the second set to beat Dratva in straight-set 21-18, 21-18.
Cheam will be up against Subhankar Dey of India next.
However, Malaysia’s 2018 SUKMA champion Tan Jia Wei was shown the door by Toby Penty of England, losing 15-21, 18-21.
Meanwhile, it was curtains for Malaysian men’s doubles player Lim Khim Wah with his Indian partner Tarun Kona, crashing out to No. 7 seeds Arjun M.R./Ramchandran Shlok of India 16-21, 21-17, 15-21 in a hard-fought battle that lasted 47 minutes.
