Basel: Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen once again showed that they are Denmark’s best men’s doubles pair when they defeated compatriots Niclas Nohr and Kasper Antonsen in three sets 21-15, 16-21, 21-14 to advance to the Swiss Open semi-finals on Friday.
The World No. 2 men’s doubles pair of Boe/Mogensen had to dig deep to fend off the World No. 52 Nohr/Antonsen in 64 minutes.
In Saturday’s semi-finals, the No. 1 seeds Boe/Mogensen will play No. 3 seeds Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge of England.
Malaysia’s sole representatives in men’s doubles – Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik couldn’t move any further by going down to Tinn Isriyanet/Kittisak Namdash of Thailand 21-18, 21-13.
In men’s singles, Denmark’s Jan Jorgensen continued his strong form by beating No. 4 seeds Suppanyu Avihingsanon of Thailand 21-13, 21-16 to progress to the semi-finals. Jorgensen will play Lucas Corvee of France next.
In the women’s singles, No. 1 seed Sayaka Takahashi of Japan came up with a brilliant performance to beat Denmark’s No. 7 seed Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt 21-14, 21-13 to set up a last four meeting with No. 4 seed Evgeniya Kosetskaya of Russia.
The Swiss Open is a HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament with a long history going back to 1955. The city of Basel is the host and the “big” St. Jakobshalle the competition venue, the same venue that will play host the TOTAL BWF World Championships in 2019.
