Jakarta: Malaysia’s unseeded Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai got the better of compatriots and No. 7 seeds Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing 15-21, 21-16, 21-16 in the quarter-finals of Indonesia Masters on Friday.
Goh/Lai also defeated the same teammates in last week’s Malaysia Masters quarter-finals and will play No. 6 seeds Zhang Siwei/Huang Yaqiong of China in the semi-finals.
The revenge-hungry Zhang Siwei/Huang Yaqiong outclassed Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong 21-14, 21-15 to advance to the semi-finals of the Indonesia Masters. Zheng/Huang eased past the Hong Kong pair to exact revenge for their loss in the Malaysia Masters final last Sunday.
In men’s doubles, although Malaysia’s Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong saved 5 match points in the second set, coming back from 15-20 to win the game 22-20, they couldn’t repeat their success similar to last week’s Malaysia Masters against World Champions Zhang Nan/Liu Cheng. This time, it was Zhang/Liu who gained the upper hands in demolishing Goh/Tan 21-18, 20-22, 21-12 in 53 minutes.
Zhang/Liu are set to play No. 2 seeds Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen on Saturday. It’s worth noting that Li/Liu had defeated last week’s Malaysia Masters champions Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto 21-15, 21-12 in the Indonesia Masters second round on Thursday.
The Indonesia Masters is a World Tour Super 500 level tournament and offers total prize money of $350,000.
