Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian badminton coach Tey Seu Bock who was on Lee Chong Wei’s side when the World No. 2 won clinched his fifth men’s singles crown at the Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open three weeks ago, was once again handed the challenging task of coaching Lee Chong Wei to re-assert his dominance in men’s singles at the BWF World Superseries Finals in Dubai.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed on Monday that Tey Seu Bock who was supposed to be on vacation, was called to replace Malaysia’s men’s singles coach, Hendrawan, who may not able to receive the Visa and arrive in Dubai before Wednesday.
BAM’s Honorary Secretary, Datuk Ng Chin Chai, has confirmed about sending Tey Seu Bock to Dubai.
“We do not have much time to resolve Hendrawan’s visa problem. So we had to ask Seu Bock for help,” said Ng.
“Again, we didn’t expect this to happen because Hendrawan was able to accompany Chong Wei to Dubai last year and he didn’t experience any problem,” added Ng.
“However, there is nothing to worry about as Seu Bock will be going to Dubai tomorrow night (Tuesday).”
“Seu Bock will be with Chong Wei in the first game this Thursday.”
Not sure why Ng Chin Chai said Lee’s first match would be on Thursday, according the BWF drawing, Lee’s will start his first group match against Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong on Wednesday.
Tey Seu Bock had previously trained Lee Chong Wei before being promoted to head coach of the women’s singles squad.
Lee Chong Wei who had won the BWF Super Series four times (2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013), already left for Dubai on Sunday with his sparring partner Cheam June Wei.
In addition to Lee, Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing also departed for Dubai with their coach Chin Eei Hui on Sunday.
