Kuala Lumpur: There are many critical moments in a badminton match where the players will feel pressure to succeed. Ironically, because of this pressure, it can be difficult for shuttlers to perform their best.

According to Malaysia’s chief mixed doubles coach – Chin Eei Hui, world No. 10 mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Men/Lai Pei Jing have started to feel the pressure as they have been labelled as the top mixed doubles pair in Malaysia.

“Kian Meng/Pei Jing faced tremendous pressure from high expectations placed on them, and they are not experienced on how to play under pressure. They tend to get tight in key situations during a match,” said Chin at the Badminton Academy Malaysia (ABM), Bukit Kiara on Saturday.

Chin was hopeful that Tan/Lai could overcome pressure and could thrive at the upcoming Denmark and French Open.

“I do not want them to give 90 percent of commitment during the training, but to show only 3 percent of their full capabilities during the tournament. I want them to return to their true level at Denmark and French Open,” added Chin.

“Based on the ranking, they are the number one mixed doubles pair in the country. However, I treat all the pairs the same with the exception of Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying, in which I think they are still the best pair in Malaysia, “said the former women’s doubles player.

Tan/Lai will face South Korea’s Seung Jae-Seo/Kim Ha-Na in the first round of Denmark Open, while they will have to battle past Nipitphon Phuangphuapet/Jongkolphan Kititharakul of Thailand in order to advance to the second round of French Open.
