Tokyo: Six-time Japan Open winner Lee Chong Wei said despite the defeat but there were plenty of good things to come out of his run to the final at the Japan Open.

Lee, the 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016 champion in Tokyo, lost to reigning World Champion Viktor Axelsen in a three-set thriller on Sunday afternoon.

While it was definitely some disappointments for not able to win another Superseries title in his 100th finals in international tournaments, Lee remained positive after the loss.

“Axelsen is playing with more confident after becoming the World Champion,” said Lee.

“After what happened in Glasgow, I’m happy for being able to make the final. It really helped me regained my confidence,” added Lee.

Axelsen improved his career record against Lee to 2-9 after Sunday’s victory.
