Kuala Lumpur: Morten Frost Hansen, hired on Feb 23, 2015 as the technical director of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), have decided to part ways with BAM after less than three years working together, and BAM’s Coaching and Training (C&T) Committee has accepted his resignation on Monday.
Frost who initially signed a well-paid contract with the National Sports Council until Dec 31, 2020, has tendered a six-month resignation notice to BAM on Sept 11, citing personal reasons.
“We wish him all the best for his future endeavors, and we also thank him for this service in BAM,” said BAM president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria.
“Frost resigned—of his own free will, no pressure involved from BAM on that front. For now, we do not have any plan yet to hire any coach to replace him,” added Zakaria.
Misbun Sidek (men’s singles), Cheah Soon Kit (men’s doubles), Tey Seu Bock (women’s singles), Wong Pei Ty (women’s doubles) and Chin Eei Hui (mixed doubles) would serve as interim head coach for their respective departments for the duration of the season.
The former four times All-England champion from Denmark had been BAM’s coaching director from 1997-2000, but he was not familiar with the politics involved in Malaysian sports at that time, and resigned in 2000. Frost obviously had to call it quits again this time, despite his title, all is left for him in BAM is only an empty shell, since he only possessed very limited power over certain departments in BAM.
