Glasgow: Just when you think Lee Chong Wei’s first round heart-wrenching loss was extremely disappointed for him and his fan, World No. 1 men’s doubles pair Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen of China joined the list of upset victims at the BWF World Championships when unseeded Mohammad Ahsan/Rian Agung Saputro of Indonesia came off a nail biting finish to outlast Li/Liu 19-21, 21-18, 21-18 in a 68 minutes encounter.

Ahsan/Saputro will play No. 16 seeds Mathias Christiansen/David Daugaard of Denmark on Thursday.

Men’s doubles No. 5 seeds Tan Wee Kiong/Goh V Shem extended their run of being upset by a lower ranked opponents when they were knocked out of the world meet as the Malaysian went down 21-18, 21-16 to World No. 55 Chung Eui Seok/Kim Dukyoung of Korea in only 39 minutes.

In men’s singles, Lin Dan didn’t have things all his own way as he got past spirited Denmark player Emil Holst to reach the third round of World Championships in a tough three-setter on Wednesday. Lin needed 81 minutes to see off Holst 19-21, 21-8, 21-16, and will take on Rajiv Ouseph of England next.

Defending champion Chen Long however got his World Championships campaign under control with an unruffled straight-sets win over Indonesian Sony Dwi Kuncoro 21-13, 21-9 to reach the third round. Next up, Chen will meet No. 13 seed Ajay Jayaram of India.

Malaysia’s challenge in men’s singles has fizzled out when Zulfadli Zulkiffli was defeated by Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand 18-21, 13-21.

Brice Leverdez of France who has just broken hearts of Lee Chong Wei fans all around the world yesterday, had to chart his way around the dangerous and unpredictable Zvonimir Durkinjak of Croatia 21-16, 19-21, 20-22 to reach the men’s singles third round.
